The Waves of Life

1933

The height of the depression;

The year the world was in ruin.

Everyone says it was a terrible year,

Yet something amazing happened –

A boy named Felix L, was born.

1945

The end of hell;

A demon is thrown down,

And the world can begin to rebuild;

And a 12-year-old boy,

Who has grown up knowing nothing but fear,

Has come to the beginning of a new age:

An age of possibility

When he can go back to playing

with his friends by the lake,

In the summertime.

1956

The journey:

Three days on a ship,

Out in the open sea

With the smell of salt and freedom;

A man who has always loved the water

is now surrounded by it;

A new beginning;

Transformation,

And a life left behind.

1957-1977

For 20 years – a new life:

Driving up and down the city streets,

Seeing strangers come and go,

Passing the time making up stories,

Of all the places they go,

And all the things they do,

To find a wife and make

A home.

1983

The birth of a child,

A beautiful baby girl;

A gift,

Precious and perfect,

A joy that will stay till the end of days.

2014

Every man wishes

for his line to continue,

For an heir to the legacy of all he has done;

Now was the time for a grandson,

Someone who will continue with what

His mother taught him,

and what her father taught her.

2018

Some kids come to the door

wondering about a life lived and events

That has long come to pass,

Because they care to know,

Because a person should never think themselves forgotten.

This poem is for Felix L. – the man with eyes full of stories.

Thank you for letting me talk to you and learn from your life

It is a memory I will cherish forever.

Sincerely, Aaman
