Toronto v.s Manila

The Pearl of the Orient

The pearl of your eyes is,

Manila.

The crash of waves enter your ear and you feel at peace,

You feel at home.

You hear the beeps of horns, and the swish of the wind, and the chirping of sparrows

And all of it envelops you as if

Manila was the blanket that keeps you warm at night.

The Queen City

The Queen of your heart is,

Toronto.

The constant rush of traffic is always in your ear and you know you are at home.

Jackhammers, the sirens of passing ambulances and fire engines roar by.

Toronto is your home.

The Pearl of the Orient,

The pearl of your eyes is,

Manila.

The scent of the ocean overcomes you and you feel joy,

You feel radiant.

You smell the aroma of mixing street foods, and the humidity, and the fumes

And all of it envelops you as if

Manila was the refreshing gulp of lemonade on a hot summer day.

The Queen City

The Queen of your heart is,

Toronto.

The smell of the autumn breeze passing through the downtown skyscrapers.

As coffee shop doors open and close,

You are invited by an intransing coffee smell.

Toronto is that fresh pot of coffee early in the morning.

The Pearl of the Orient,

The pearl of your eyes is,

Manila.

The electrifying excitement overpowers you and you feel energized,

You feel alive.

You feel the sun’s blazing rays, and the roughness of the stone buildings, and the coarse sand on your feet

And all of it envelops you as if

Manila was the friend that always made you smile

The Queen City

The Queen of your heart is,

Toronto.

The crips air on a cold winters day surrounds you.

The frost nipping at your nose, turning it red.

Slippery snow under your feet.

Toronto is a pretty snowglobe waiting to be shook. We wrote this poem for our senior David B. In our meeting, he talked about him home town Toronto, Canada and his wifes hometown where they visited before, Manila, Phillpines. We did a paralell poem, using some of the senses to describe Manila and Toronto.
